Terms of service

This is the pre-launch text. A reviewed version replaces it when the service opens for paid use; the substance below will not become more permissive. Questions: hello@screensay.com.

1. The service

Screensay analyzes video you submit and returns a document describing what was on screen, what was said and how it was said, as JSON, as a screenplay rendering and as a summary card. Results are produced by automated systems and by models; they can be wrong, and the document marks its own uncertainty. You decide whether a result is fit for your use.

2. Your content and your rights

You represent that you own, or have all rights, licenses and consents necessary to submit, each file, URL or connected account you give to the service and to have it analyzed, and that the submission and analysis do not violate any third party's rights or any platform's terms. This applies to uploads, signed URLs, connected accounts and pasted links alike. You are responsible for the content you submit and for your use of the output.

3. Third-party platforms, including YouTube

Screensay is not affiliated with YouTube or Google. Where you submit a link to a third-party platform, the service fetches what that platform serves publicly, reads it once, and analyzes it with Google's Gemini API. Private videos are not supported. You are responsible for compliance with that platform's terms in respect of your use of the output. What is kept afterwards is set out in section 5.

4. Acceptable use

• No bulk crawling of channels or accounts you do not own or are not authorized to analyze.
• No use of the service to circumvent any platform's access controls, rate limits or bot checks.
• No building of training datasets from videos whose owners have not permitted it.
• No identification, face matching or biometric analysis of people in videos.
• No submission of content you do not have the right to submit.

5. Retention and training

• The downloaded video, its frame hashes and the sampled frames are kept in a per-video cache so that a repeat request is served without downloading or re-reading the video. The cache is not served to anyone and is deleted on request.
• Free preview results are cached by video id for 7 days so a repeated URL is served without re-analysis.
• Finished documents and the cache are kept until you delete them or ask us to. A fixed retention period will be published before the service opens for paid use. Usage records needed for billing are kept as long as your account exists.
• We do not use your content or the documents produced from it to train models, and we pass through the no-training terms of the model provider's paid tier.

6. Output

You own the documents produced from your content. Screensay keeps a license to store them for as long as they are retained under section 5 and serve them back to you, and does not resell or share documents across customers.

7. Billing

Usage is billed per video minute analyzed, rounded up to a tenth, at the rates on the pricing page; questions to a finished job bill 0.1 standard minute each. Repeat requests for a cached document are not charged. Payments are processed by Stripe. Keys may be revoked and accounts suspended for abuse, for non-payment, or on notice from a platform or rights holder.

8. Takedown

If you believe a document held by the service is derived from content you own and was submitted without authorization, write to hello@screensay.com with the video, the account if known, and your claim, and it will be removed while we review.

9. Liability

The service is provided as is. To the extent permitted by law, Screensay is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and its total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid in the three months before the claim. You agree to cover claims arising from content you submit or accounts you connect.

10. Changes

These terms may change; material changes will be announced to account holders by email before they take effect.
